100th Anniversary History Book

Being HNTB tells the story of the former Howard, Needles, Tammen & Bergendoff, a 100-year-old infrastructure firm that has planned, designed  and/or managed many of the largest and most complex highway, toll-road, bridge, tunnel, airport, rail, transit, water and architecture projects in the United States. The 144-page book brings alive the history of an organization that has achieved a century of success by being true to itself and adhering to long-held values: quality in work, integrity in behavior and continuity as an independent firm.

Published in January 2014, the book was the result of a two-year collaboration between HNTB and Essex Publishing Group, for which Peter works as chief content officer. In addition to managing the project for Essex, Peter worked as a contract author to research and write a 30,000-word manuscript, captions and other editorial material. His research involved reviewing thousands of pages of historic documents, conducting approximately 75 interviews with HNTB leaders, employees and clients, and visiting HNTB facilities and projects in six states.
